Wind Energy Machines

Wind Power Generation
Using Modern Wind Machines

Wind energy machines have been around for thousands of years.

Today, with modern technology, wind power generation is much more efficient and generates more and more of the power we use.

Wind energy and wind machines have been used for thousands of years throughout human history for various tasks—even before they were used for wind electricity.

Today modern wind turbines are used for renewable wind energy by homeowners and power companies alike!

History of the Wind Machine

Here’s a brief history of wind machines:

  • Egypt - Over 5000 years ago, ancient Egyptians used wind power to sail their boats on the Nile River. Later Egyptians used wind power to grind their grains.

  • Persia - Early windmills were built in Persia (now Iran) and they were used to grind grain. The earliest windmills had very large blades that looked like thre paddle wheels in a water wheel.

  • Holland - When we think of Holland, windmills come to mind. There’s a reason for that. The Dutch improved the windmill and invented propeller-type blades that were more efficient and could be turned into the wind.

  • America - Early American colonists used windmills to grind their wheat and corn, to pump water and to cut wood in their sawmills. During the early part of the 20th century, Americans on farms and in rural areas used windmills to generate electricity.

During the 1930’s the U.S. government was instrumental in running electric power lines to those rural areas, and windmills began their decline in the U.S.

In the 1970s, oil shortages and hippies seeking self-sufficiency, brought a revival and new interest in wind energy machines.

    Wind Machines Today
    Efficient Wind Power Generation

Wind power generation technology has improved tremendously in recent years. Years ago, wind machines were used to convert the wind’s kinetic energy into mechanical power to grind grain or pump water. Today wind turbines or wind machines are used primarily to generate electricity.

Just like the old fashioned windmills, energy from wind is collected by blades that turn in the wind. The blades are connected to a drive shaft that turns an electric generator, which, in turn, produces electricity.

Power companies still deal with the issue of low or no wind.

However, home wind power is not as much an issue, as newer models of residential wind turbines often can still operate in low wind conditions. And homeowners often have a battery bank to store extra energy for such times.

As you can see, wind energy machines have come a long way from their very first introduction. And modern wind energy machines are efficient in most conditions and continue to improve each year.

The future of wind power generation is good, and homeowners who want to save money and become self-sufficient should certainly take a good look at today’s efficient residential wind turbines!
